Stainless Steel Coloring Technique

JINBAICHENG METAL is the Stainless steel coil Manufacturer, stainless steel Stockholder,  Exporter In CHINA.

There are a few ways that you can color stainless steel. The most common methods are using heat, paints, and dyes.

1.Finished Metal Surface Preparation

Make sure that your stainless steel surface has been cleaned and polished. It’s important to have a clean, smooth surface before applying any type of paint or dye so the finish will be flawless with no bumps or ridges. Make sure you follow these steps in order – do not skip ahead! Start by using some soap and water to clean the surface, then use a polishing cloth or steel wool to get rid of any scratches or blemishes.

If you’re working with raw stainless steel that hasn’t been finished yet, you’ll need to do some additional preparation before moving on to step two. Use a fine-grit sandpaper to rough up the surface, then use a polishing cloth to smooth it out. This will give your paint something to adhere to and make the finished product last longer!

2.Cleaning The Metal Surface

The surface of the metal should be free from dirt, grease and other contaminants to get a good result. You can use a cleaning solvent or degreaser to clean it. Be sure to follow the safety instructions on the product label. Wipe the surface dry with a clean cloth when done.

3.Heating With The Torch

Once the steel is at a temperature where it’s ready to be colored, you can begin heating with your torch. At this point in the process, ensure that all flames are extinguished from your propane or acetylene tank. Make sure there isn’t any gas vapor coming out of either one before continuing on! You also don’t want the heat to be too intense, as you could end up damaging your piece.

Move the torch around so that the flame is in direct contact with the steel. The color will start to change almost immediately, and it should only take a few seconds for it to reach the desired shade. Keep in mind that stainless steel has a tendency to “bounce back” after being exposed to heat. If you want the color darker, it may be necessary for you to reheat your piece several times before achieving the desired shade. You can use this same method with different colors of steel wool as well!

4.Oil Dipping

After your steel is completely dry, it’s time to apply a protective finish. Dip the steel into a container of oil. Any vegetable or cooking oil will work. Make sure the steel is completely covered with the oil. Wipe off any excess oil with a cloth. The steel should now be rust-free and have a nice sheen.

The oil will also help to prevent the steel from corroding. You may need to reapply the oil every few months, depending on how often the steel is used.

5.Brass Depositing

If you’re not happy with your results, try our brass deposit. Brass gives the most natural color effect and if applied correctly it can look like real brass or copper! It’s also usually one of the easiest to work with because once again, an acidic solution is needed for this process; but instead of vinegar (which burns!)
